The 6 Components of Discipleship
Explore Ministries employs a 6-part methodology to implement mentor-based relational discipleship. The 6 Components of Discipleship may be tailored in any arrangement that best suits the needs and schedule of any Christian community.
Student Instruction |
A series of interrelated, incremental instructional components designed to lead the disciple through The 6 Stages of Spiritual Development are presented during Student Instruction. The curriculum is designed to help the believer grow from their introduction to the Lord to a position of spiritual independence where their relationship with the Father is not dependent on the faith of someone else. |
Mentor Review |
Mentor Review is a detailed review of the material being currently presented to the student. It is necessary that the mentors review and/or learn the information that the students are investigating in order to effectively come alongside and work with them. |
Relational Discipleship Time |
Relationship Discipleship Time is the one-on-one personal time mentors need to spend with their disciples. Using Relational Discipleship Studies (formerly called Home Studies), mentors engage in conversation and discussion with their student as they investigate more deeply and integrate into their lives the information newly learned. |
Small Groups |
Small Groups are employed to accomplish 4 things: |
Fellowship - |
Small Groups is where Christian friendships can be developed. |
Accountability - |
When challenges come from a teacher, often it comes across as a duty, a burden, a heavy yoke. When it comes from someone we are in fellowship with, it’s a blessing and a help. |
Care - |
Classtime is not the most effective place for a student to share their personal concerns and problems. A small group can more appropriately provide love and care when someone is in need. |
Service - | Believers need opportunities to live out their faith. Organizing service opportunities for a small group is often much more manageable than for an entire class. |
Mentor Training |
is a series of Stage-specific instructional components that educate mentors on the skills and actions necessary and appropriate to assist the development of their disciple. |
Worship |
Environments that encourage and facilitate having a “face-to-face” encounter with the Lord are important for developing personal relationships with the Lord. |
Here are some examples of how these components may be scheduled to fit into your community’s current schedule. more »
